Blavity was founded by Morgan DeBaun in 2014, with the help of 3 coworkers who all lived in Silicon Valley. She bootstrapped the company for $250,000 of her own money, then successfully raised her first round of venture capital. What started as a newsletter is now a digital platform garnering millions of views each month, and home to Shadow and Act, Blavity U, AfroTech, and more.
